Islamorada Travel Guide

We recently visited the Florida keys for our family vacation and it was absolutely breathtaking. Islamorada is located minutes away from Key Largo. Its an easy drive from Miami and Key West airports. It’s an ideal destination for families but it’s also perfect for those who want to just go and relax to.

Islamorada is known for its pristine beaches, clear and calm waters, towering palm trees and beautiful sunsets. Its also an appealing spot for fisherman and anyone who loves to dive and snorkle. Its just a super calm peaceful place to be.

Where To Stay

While we were in Islamorada we stayed at Post Card Inn Beach Resort & Marina It literally is Islamorada’s favorite oceanfront playground. This retro hotel has been completely refreshed. Our oceanfront suite was just perfect for our family. I loved every detail down ti the whimsical decor. The hotel has a beautiful beach and two pools. our personal favorite was the oceanfront pool. They offer several onsight dining options available. We really loved getting drinks from The World Famous Holiday Isle Tiki Bar They have the best conch fritters and tropical drinks.

Where to Eat

We literally tried so many different restaurants but I wanted to share a few of my favorites. If your looking for a hot breakfast you will want to visit Mangrove Mike’s they have amazing options such as french toast. My personal favorite was all of the Gluten Free Options that they offer. I loved the GF almond bread french toast. They also offer some amazing lunch options.

What about lunch? My personal favorite was Wahoos Bar and Grill They have some amazing salads if that’s your thing and the seafood is out of this world.

Let’s not forget about dinner. After a day on the beach how about winding down to a beautiful sunset and a cold drink. We absolutely loved Islamorada Fish Company The conch fritters and fresh catch of the day was out of this world. I enjoyed my glass of wine with some key lime pie at the end of the night. Its a must try if you love key lime pie.

What to Do!

So you have beautiful beaches, but what else can you do? How about some snorkeling? We took an amazing tour with Islander Girl Snorkel and Tours They are such a great tour company. We loved the tour guides. They provide everything you need for the day like, towels, gear and even rum punch. We saw a giant turtle and so many fish.

We visited Theater of the Sea to swim with dolphins. They have so many different types of animal encounters from dolphins, to seas lions and you can even meet an alligator. Our kids really enjoyed the shows. Our dolphin trainer was hands down super sweet and taught the boys a little more about how amazing dolphins are. They are so smart.

What to Wear

Now this is the fun part. It stays mostly in the 80s all year long but in the late winter months or early spring you may get a cool night but its honestly around 70. Bring your swimsuits and shorts. You may want to pack a few sundresses for dinner and some sandals. We stayed in our swimsuits during day. For breakfast I would throw on shorts and a tee shirt. For dinner I dresses up and got matching shirts for the family.
